THIXO GEL
The THIXO GEL Method is used in EPB tunneling when there is a risk of losing pressure balance in the excavation chamber. It rapidly converts excavated soil into a plastic flow state, helping to maintain stable face support. In this method, thixotropic clay (main material) and a gelation agent (Solution B) are pumped separately through a two-component pipeline system using a 1.5-shot process. The two components are mixed immediately before injection, forming a high-viscosity plastic gel that is injected into the ground. THIXO GEL shows strong resistance to washout by groundwater and reliably fills ground voids, improving excavation stability. It also helps control groundwater inflow at the tunnel face, reduces friction around the shield machine within the chamber, enables effective filling of over-excavation in sharp curves, and minimizes slurry loss.
